Episode 100: The Communication Skills Nobody Ever Taught You - Jaimie Abbott

Are You Actually Listening, or Just Waiting for Your Turn to Talk?

Okay, real talk. Most of us were never taught how to communicate. Not at school, not at home, not anywhere. We just kind of winged it and then wonder why the hard conversations turn into blow ups, why the networking event felt awkward, or why we froze mid-sentence when it mattered most.

This week I sat down with Jamie Abbott, journalist turned military media coach turned "how to actually get people to listen to you" expert, and she called me out within the first two minutes. Fair enough. This episode will make you rethink your last few conversations.

What You'll Learn

  • The one thing exceptional communicators do differently (hint: it's not about what you say)
  • Jamie's simple formula for winning people over at any event, even if you hate small talk
  • Why "listening" and "waiting for your turn" are not the same thing, and how to actually tell the difference
  • How to prep for a hard conversation so it doesn't turn into a fight or years of silence
  • What your hands, tone, and body language are giving away without you realising it
